Our Story

Sylvan Stoltzfus Builders is a family-owned and operated business located in the beautiful farming landscape of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania where hardworking Amish craftsmen and barn builders are renowned.

We specialize in designing, building, restoring, and renovating custom wood and timber frame buildings in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Our Early Beginnings

Our beginnings trace back to the equestrian world and horse farms. It started when Jane, one of Sylvan’s first clients, commissioned a custom horse barn back in 2003. She was so thrilled that she wanted to join the team shortly afterwards to help them get the word out about the quality and attentiveness of the team.

Can I design my own barn, house, or equine facility?

Absolutely! We'd love to work with you to build a facility that will meet your needs. Our first objective always is to listen to your ideas and needs. Whether or not you have a specific design in mind, we will work with you and make suggestions to enhance your dream design. We want to make sure that all of your ideas are uncovered so that you get exactly what you want.

Can I get custom or special order items?

Yes. If a standard item (for example, windows and doors) does not meet your needs, just let us know what you’re looking for and we will special order it for you.

What is the typical lead-time from the time I sign a contract to the start of the project?

This typically ranges from 5 to 7 weeks. However, in times of peak construction, lead times can stretch out to 10 to 12 weeks. Keep in mind that your local government permitting process can also effect lead time.

Are blueprints provided for permit requirements?

Yes. Once a contract is signed and the design is agreed upon, we initiate the blueprint development with our architects. We will provide you with two sets of blueprints, but if you need more, just let us know.

What is the typical time to complete a facility?

This ranges based on time of year as well as size and detail of the facility. Usually it’s about 5 to 7 weeks, but in many instances, it can be 3 to 4 weeks.

What is your warranty?

We stand behind our work and our buildings. All workmanship is covered for 1 year after completion. But, rest assured, if there is ever a problem with one of our facilities even after the 1-year period, do not hesitate to call us.

What are the typical costs to build?

This is a difficult question to answer as it can range a great deal depending on your requests and requirements. To discuss this question further, call our central office at 800.881.9781.

What type of materials do you use?

We use wood, metal, vinyl products, and Hardiplank® siding. However, most of our buildings are made out of Premium Grade Kiln Dried Southern White Pine board and batten. Building roofs are the customer’s choice. We work with architectural shingles, 29-gauge insulated metal, or standing seam. We only use top-quality materials for our buildings to ensure that structures will withstand the elements and provide years of use, enjoyment, and beauty.

What additional costs do I need to consider when budgeting for my building?

We frequently provide turn-key projects, managing everything from permits to completion. While we cover most construction requirements for your building or facility, there are some building requirements that we beyond our scope. Based on your specific project, we will let you know what those things are, if any, up front.

How do I request a quote for my building?

You can call us, or fill out our online form. Once we have your building requirements, we can create a mockup of the facade and floor plan then prepare pricing estimates. This process usually takes about a week. When everything is ready, we can deliver your proposal by mail, email, fax, or we can set up an in-person meeting.

Do you do site visits?

Yes. If you'd like, we can do one before you sign your contract, but we will always do one prior to construction to ensure that everything is in order for us to get started.
